How CBD could help you quit smoking

Vaping has been a popular way to give up smoking for quite some time, but there is a new trend amongst people looking to quit. Vaping CBD has become a popular alternative quitting technique that ticks all the boxes for ex-smokers that want a nicotine-free way of giving up their habit. Here’s how CBD could help you quit smoking.
The basics of vaping CBD

There are obvious reasons why people choose to quit smoking by vaping CBD. Firstly, the action of inhaling and exhaling vapour closely resembles the action of smoking. For many smokers, the habitual action of smoking is just as hard to give up as their addiction to nicotine itself. That is why many people vape ordinary nicotine e-liquids to quit.

Secondly, many studies show that CBD helps to make you feel relaxed. This is very useful for ex-smokers as nicotine cravings often bring on sudden and strong feelings of panic that cause them to relapse into smoking again. Vaping is one of the quickest ways to intake CBD into your body and experience these effects.

However, there are new and interesting studies which argue there is proof that CBD has a chemical effect which can treat addiction.

How CBD can treat addiction

An increasing number of studies show that CBD could be an effective way of quitting smoking. The studies suggest that CBD can help to reduce addictive behaviour by altering the way your neural system responds to cravings. This works when the endocannabinoid system (a system of neurotransmitters in your brain) reacts with CBD to maintain a healthy ‘reward response’.

When you smoke, nicotine increases your levels of dopamine which makes you feel good – i.e. you experience a reward response. However, when you stop smoking, your levels of dopamine drop and you start to crave the reward response again.

The theory proposed by a number of researchers, is that CBD can help to reduce your cravings by influencing your dopamine receptors. CBD has been shown to boost the levels of anandamide, an endocannabinoid which increases levels of dopamine in your body.

Anandamide – which is named from the Sanskrit word ‘ananda’, meaning ‘bliss’ – is an endocannabinoid that affects our mood. CBD increases levels of anandamide endocannabinoid by reducing the levels of the enzyme FAAH that breaks it down. Researchers believe that increased levels of anandamide (made possible by the use of CBD) may lead to an increase in dopamine levels, without the need for cigarettes.
