Terpene-infused CBD crystals are a very high-quality CBD concentrate, enhanced and flavoured by pure cannabis terpene profiles. Terpenes are the molecules that give all strains of cannabis (along with fruits like lemons, oranges and mangoes) their loud aroma and flavour. Beyond their pleasant taste, terpenes are beginning to show they are quite effective as a medicine. Due to an almost exclusive focus on THC and CBD in this regard, terpenes remained largely overlooked. Frankly, the existence – let alone purpose – of terpenes is not common knowledge. Fortunately, this is starting to change.
When cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are filtered/distilled and processed to 99% purity, they are totally devoid of any terpenes. An average hemp enthusiast may be impressed by this purity, but purer is not always better. The reality, once tested, is quite different. Purified cannabinoids lack taste, odour and – most importantly – are severely crippled due to lack of terpenes. Without these key components, the synergistic “entourage effect” cannot take place. Some studies even suggest a 50% CBD extract with terpenes is more effective than 99% CBD alone.
What is the “Entourage Effect”?
The Entourage effect was a phrase first coined by the legendary cannabinoid researcher, Raphael Mechoulam and his team of cannabis scientists. We use it to describe the relationship between cannabinoids, terpenoids and flavonoids. Research shows that terpenes block some cannabinoid receptor sites while promoting cannabinoid bonding to others. Consequently, terpenes are believed to directly affect how CBD is absorbed and utilised in our endocannabinoid systems’ CB1 and CB2 receptors. This enhances both its bioavailability and biological half-life.
Put simply, CBD without terpenes (isolate) is significantly less effective than its terpene-filled (full spectrum) counterpart. This is what inspired our Terpene Infused CBD Crystals.
